The 51st Highland Division memorial is one of the best known of the World War 1 memorials and stands above the village of Beaumont Hamel in Flanders. Erected in 1924, the memorial commemorates the capture of the high ground above the village by the Division following three months of bloody fighting in the Autumn of 1916.
